Our story begins with a view from space showing something heading for Earth.  A farmer working out in the field notices something flying overhead and crashing not far from where he is working.   Although afraid of what just landed, he deceides to go check it out.  When he reaches the crash site, he pulls out his gun for safety and the approaches the object.   Upon closer inspection, he finds out that the object is not a meteror but something made of steel.

The pod suddenly opens and a man hovers out of the pod.    Once out of the pod, we can see that this man has really long hair, is wearing something that looks like body armor, and is wearing some kind of device over his eye.   After seeing the farmer he becomes angry and says "So, the creatures on this planet are still alive.  Kakarot has failed us!"   The farmer comments that the man is on his property.  The man then checks out the farmers Power Level with the device over his eye.  He comments that the farmers power level is puny (level 5).  The alien moves towards the farmer and the farmer takes a shot at him with his gun.  The alien catches the bullet in his hand and laughs and throws the bullet back at the farmer injuring him.  Just then, the alien gets a blip on his eye device showing a high power reading off in another direction.  He says that it must be Kakarot and takes off towards the power reading.

Now, we switch to a scene in the forest where we see Goku jumping around.  Goku comes upon a huge tree, mentions that it wil do and proceeds to knock down the tree in a single punch.  Goku then carries then whole tree back to his house where it will aparently be used as firewood.  Once at his house we also see Goku's wife Chi Chi.  Chi Chi reminds Goku that him and Gohan were supposed to be going over to Master Roshi's house soon for the reunion.

We are then transported to a desert scene where we see Piccolo standing.  Piccolo suddenly becomes wide eyed as he senses an incredible power approaching.   He can't believe it.  He says it can't  be Goku.  It  is too horrible.  Just then, we see the alien with the long hair flying and landing next to Piccolo.

[He excuses himself for dropping in, but he is looking for a man named Kakarot and that he thought he was him.  Piccolo responds by saying that maybe the alien should get glasses for both of his eyes.  The long haired man says the he is a very funny man.  Piccolo says that he wouldn't count on that and tells the other man to be off.  The long haired man says "Oh, you would like that wouldn't you." and proceeds to check the others power level with the device on his eye.    He gets a power level of 322 and says that he can tell that the green man is not from this planet and that he would be a fool to attack with such a insufficient power.  Piccolo says that he has no interest in starting a fight.  The long haired alien does.]

[Piccolo then proceeds to fire a blast at the other man.   After the smoke clears, the alien seems to be undamaged.  He laughs and says "Goodness, you have managed to singe some of my leg hair.  Now let me demonstrate a more effective attack.  I call this one Keep Your Eyes On The Birdie."     Just as he is getting ready to attack, he gets a blip on his eye device showing a stronger power level somewhere else.  The alien mentions that it must be him and then flies off towards the higher power reading.]

As the alien flies off, he has a flashback remembering the day they sent Kakarot to Earth as an infant.  He says that they had high hopes for him and is still wondering why Kakarot had not fulfilled his mission.

Goku flying on his cloud, the Flying Nimbus, picks up Gohan, who was stranded in a tree, and takes off heading for Master Roshi.  Meanwhile, at the Kame house, Bulma drops by and says hello to Master Roshi and Krillin.    Switching back to the alien, we see him still in pursuit of his large power reading.  He mentions that the power he is following is moving at incredible speed, but he will catch it.  Goku arrives at Master Roshi's house and meets up with Bulma, Krillin and Master Roshi.  Goku introduces the three to his son Gohan.  Master Roshi comments that Goku named him after Goku's grandfather.   Bulma asks how old Gohan is and Gohan says that he is 5 1/2.  While talking to Gohan, Bulma notices that he as a tail.  Bulma and Master Roshi ask Goku if anything strange has ever happened to Gohan at night, particularly at night when the moon is full.  Goku says that nothing has ever happened, that they go to bed pretty early at night.  Bulma also notices that Gohan has a Dragonball on the top of his hat.  Goku mentions that it was his grandfathers.  Master Roshi seemed to think that Goku had less power now that he had settled down, but it seems he was wrong.

Just then,  Goku senses a power heading straight for them.   He says that he has never felt a power like this before.  Krillin also senses the power approaching.  Goku doesn't know what it is, but says that it is horrible and that he is trembling.    We see the alien flying and landing next to Goku.  The alien says "So, we meet again at last.  You've grown up.  I recognize you though Kakarot."  Goku looks startled and says "Kak-a-rot?"  The alien replies "That's right.  Thats your name."

Krillin asks who this guy is and says that he must be nuts.  The alien asks Goku what he has been doing all of these years.  His mission was to terminate all the life forms on this planet and he wants to know why it was not carried out.  Krillin, still thinking the stranger is crazy, tries to show him off of the island.  The alien then hits Krillin with his tail that was wrapped around his waist.  Goku go wide eyed when he sees the tail and mentions that the stranger has a tail too.  The alien says "So, you know who I am at last."   Goku replies that he has never seen him before.  The alien then asks Goku if he ever hit his head as a kid.  Goku says that he doesnt remember it very well, but he did his head when he was a child.  The alien seems mad and says the Goku forgot.   Goku wants to know what it is he forgot.

Just then, Master Roshi interrupts them and says that there is a story Goku grandfather told him that he thinks Goku should know.  A long time ago, Goku's grandfather found some sort of spaceship in the woods and there Goku was in a little round pod.  Goku's grandfather tried to take care of him, but Goku was wild and uncontrollable and unusually powerful for a baby.  Then one day there an accident where Goku fell into a ravine and badly injured his head.   Goku recovered and from that day on and Goku became a happy, loving boy.

Goku asks if he is from outer space and Master Roshi says yes.   Goku then turns to the alien and asks him who he is and what he wants from him.  The alien replies that he wants to put him to work.  Krillin manages to get back up from being knocked through the wall.  Goku asks him if he is ok.  Krillin warns Goku to be careful, that the alien is not normal.  The alien replies that Goku is not normal either.  He says that Goku was born on the planet Vegeta and that he is a space fighter, a Saiyan warrior just like he is.  The alien then proceeds to introduce himself.  His name is Raditz and he is Goku's big brother.  The other are amazed at the news and Bulma admits that Raditz looks like Goku.  Goku then asks why should he believe him.  Krillin also asks why was Goku living on Earth if he is from another planet.  Raditz says that the answer is simple.  They had important clients in need of a planet like Earth and Kakarot was sent to get it ready for takeover.   He says that the Saiyans are like planet brokers.  They find planets that will bring a high price on the galactic market and send their warriors to purge them of any life and make them ready for sale.  They send adult warriors to planets with strong inhabitants, but to planets with weakling like Earth, one of their babies is sufficient to carry out the order.  Raditz says that Kakarot was sent to clean up this planet but he obviously forgot his mission.  Krillin says that the Sayians are an abomination and are space pirates.  Bulma asks how the Sayians can send babies off into space on their own.    Raditz says that is enough and dont get him mad.  Raditz tells Goku that will the help of the full moon he could have destroyed them all in a few years.  Goku asks what does a full moon have to do with it.  Raditz suddenly appears shocked and asks Goku what happened to his tail.  Goku says that it was removed for good a long time ago.  Raditz calls Goku a fool telling him that his true power is gone now.  He had lost his ability to transform by the full moon.   Raditz says that he sees now how Goku can be on such good terms with these weeklings.  Goku says "This is my home and these are my friends so it doesnt matter what you say I am and you dont act like any brother I would ever want to have.   My name is Goku and I lives here.  Now leave us alone."  Raditz replies that baby brother wants to be left alone but he cant allow that.  He explains that their home planet Vegeta met with an unfortunate accident.  Three years ago, a huge comet smashed into the planet causing it to explode wiping out the entire Saiyan race.  Only four survived and Kakarot is one of the four.  He says that Kakarot is very valuable to them.  They have found a planet which will fetch a premium rate and the job will require a little extra manpower.  Raditz asks Goku if he is excited.   He says he should be and that he has come back to take Kakarot back into the fold.   Goku gets fed up and says that he has had enough.  Goku says the answer is no.  

Raditz looks over at Goku's boy, Gohan, and notices his tail.  He says that there is a true Saiyan.  He says that he will take the boy instead.  Goku says no he wont.  Raditz says that he can see if the fire in Goku and that Goku should come with them.  Raditz says that it is in Goku's blood and that he loves to fight.   Raditz start moving toward Gohan.  Goku tries to defend but Raditz is too fast and too strong and knocks Goku down with one a single kick.   Raditz takes Gohan and tells Goku he is taking his son while Goku thinks things over.
